Is design really that important for a wedding?

People usually associate “design” with building a new house. And yet a wedding also requires a very delicate design phase. If you’ve never heard this discussed and you’re currently planning your wedding, you’ve come to the right place!
The design phase is the most complex, and at the same time the most enjoyable, part of the journey we share with our couples. Let me walk you through how it works.
1. Getting to know the couple
We don’t design anything until we’ve truly gotten to know the couple and understood what they REALLY want for their wedding. As we always say, the wedding isn’t our day, and it shouldn’t reflect our tastes and preferences. We act more like a filter: we gather the couple’s ideas, blend them together in harmony, and design an event built entirely around those same ideas.
And it doesn’t stop there! This getting-to-know-you phase doesn’t just help us understand the couple — it also gives the couple themselves the chance to compare notes and fully understand each other’s wishes.
2. Site visit with vendors
One of the very first steps, before anything else, is visiting the venue in person. Going through every space again, taking measurements, taking photos — this lets us design a project that’s genuinely achievable. The first quality a wedding design has to have is feasibility: we don’t promise dreams we can’t deliver — instead we work out a clear, precise plan we’re fully confident in.
3. Online research
Wedding planners use Pinterest too. Searching online for images of what we have in mind helps the couple picture the final result more clearly. In words, everything can sound beautiful — it’s really only through a photo that we can actually convey the concept we have in mind.
It’s not always possible to find exactly what we’ve designed online — often we ask our couples to make a small leap of imagination, picturing a unified final result by looking at two different photos together.
4. Gathering quotes
Design goes hand in hand with gathering quotes, since these support the proposals we bring to our couples. Early in the process, one of the most important appointments is drafting the budget. During the design phase, we always stay faithful to the budget the couple set at the start — we never make proposals that fall outside it. It would be pointless and counterproductive, don’t you think?
5. Walking the same road together
Throughout the entire process, it’s essential to keep our couples constantly updated and involved. As I said at the start of this article, we don’t design weddings that only reflect our own taste: the wedding belongs to the couple, and it needs to tell their story!
That’s why the couple always has the final say before any decision. When we present a new idea, it’s just that — a proposal. If it doesn’t fully convince them, we keep working on it until it genuinely makes them both happy.
6. Writing the final project
And finally, presentation day. This is the moment our office transforms a little, just for our couple. We set up a space for them where we create a small preview of their wedding — like a table setting or a mini favor display — so they can start to breathe in the atmosphere of their big day. They’re usually left speechless, and some even get emotional, because they finally feel like they’re touching, with their own hands, something they could until then only imagine.
Picture a small lounge area with a comfortable sofa for the couple, a little table with a drink to sip on (hot or cold, depending on the season). And meanwhile, our screen plays through images we’ve carefully chosen to represent every moment of their wedding.
