Wedding vendors often have a problem: they speak a very technical language, assuming everyone can follow along. The reality is that not everyone speaks that language, so terms and concepts that feel obvious to us aren’t obvious at all to our couples.
I’ve noticed more than once that couples struggle to understand what we implicitly mean when we talk about “decor and set-up.” More than once we’ve been asked to explain what exactly we mean by that word, and to give practical examples of what we have in mind for their wedding.
There’s no simple answer to this question, and there certainly isn’t one answer that fits every couple.
For us, it’s essential that decor and set-up are defined and designed from scratch for every single wedding, because they follow:
- the couple’s taste
- the kind of wedding they want to have
- the experience they want to give their guests
- the venue they’ve chosen and the atmosphere they’re going for
That’s why we can’t give a quick, universal answer to “what is wedding decor, exactly?” — the honest answer changes depending on the style project we end up designing together.
What decor and set-up actually mean
We can define decor and set-up as everything that makes your wedding “beautiful” — the elements that act as the backdrop and give your guests that wow effect.
At the same time, decor and set-up are also functional to how smoothly the day runs. Think of the seating chart, essential for assigning tables at the reception, or the rice toss as the couple exits.
It’s during the design phase that we work out exactly which pieces we actually want to create for your event, and above all, how.
How we choose the right set-up for you
Every wedding we design tells a story — the story of the couple.
A good wedding planner has to be able to separate their own taste from the couple’s preferences and wishes. I love pastel colours, and yet I’d never dream of imposing that taste on every couple. Doing this job professionally means listening to the couple, never overriding their decisions or pushing your own personal taste onto them.
How do we make sure you’re happy with the result?
By starting with you, the couple. What do you want to feel that day? How do you picture your wedding? What feelings and emotions do you want to give your guests? How do your guests see you, and what expectations do they have for the day?
Starting from the couple’s personality, truly understanding it and honoring it, is the best way to find the style that genuinely fits them. Over the years we’ve built a precise, detailed working method that lets us make the couple’s taste our own, so there’s no more guessing during the design phase about which piece of decor will delight them and which one should be left out.
What we’re organizing together is YOUR wedding, and it’s your taste that needs to stand out above everything else.
A few wedding decor ideas
Okay, that all sounds lovely, but you still haven’t told me what exactly this decor and set-up business actually is.
I can give you a few examples if you’d like. Just remember: among everything you’ll see below, some will make your eyes light up, others might make you wrinkle your nose. Is that normal, and is that fine? Yes. Why does it happen? Simply because some of these won’t feel like “you,” and won’t reflect your taste.

Flavours of Puglia
Francesca is from Puglia, and she wanted her wedding to breathe a bit of Puglia’s air. Together we designed a tasting corner of flavoured oils, served with bread, Bella di Cerignola olives, and taralli, to carry her guests, in spirit, from Romagna to her beloved home region.

Is the ceremony itself part of the decor and set-up? Yes, if you think about it: a table for the celebrant, a backdrop that frames the scene and elevates the moment, chairs for the couple and for guests, floral decoration along the aisle, and so on.
