Do you dream of a ceremony surrounded by greenery, by a pool, by the sea, or on a mountaintop?
A symbolic ceremony is the answer to all of it.
The text, though, can’t be improvised! Don’t make the mistake I’ve seen at some weddings — thinking a few words will do, or that downloading a script from the internet is enough to “handle” the ceremony.
The text is a core part of it, and it’s what gives your rite its emotion and depth.
It needs to include a few essential stages and follow a clear structure to feel convincing and to genuinely move you and your guests.
It has to be built around you, and it can include passages, texts, and moments that matter specifically to you.
Let’s go through how to structure each individual moment.
1 – The entrance
The entrance is an incredibly emotional part and sets the tone for the entire ceremony.
Decide whether you want a traditional entrance — the groom accompanied by his mother, the bride by her father — or something more informal, like walking in hand in hand.
What matters is that this moment is followed by the celebrant’s opening words, welcoming the guests and introducing the rite, explaining “why we’re all here today.”

2 – The main body
The main body of a symbolic ceremony is where the vows happen, and possibly the ring exchange too, if you’re including it.
This part deserves particular care, because it will be the heart of the entire ceremony.
Have the celebrant introduce this solemn moment, and prepare the right words to seal your vows.
The ring exchange can follow immediately after.

3 – Rituals
You can weave several rituals into different moments of the ceremony (if you’re not sure what I mean, we covered this here: https://altrosenso.it/cerimonia-simbolica-i-4-riti-che-ancora-non-conoscevi-per-il-tuo-matrimonio/ ).
I’d suggest placing one right before the main body, and one or two right after.

4 – The closing
For the closing moment, write a short speech for the celebrant that tells everyone what just happened and shares wishes for your future together.
You can also choose to close with a short text — from a book, a song, or a poem.

5 – Music
Music will make your ceremony romantic and unforgettable.
Nothing moves people quite like music, so always plan for it — matched to your taste — at the ceremony’s key moments.
When there’s spoken text, use a purely instrumental background track that supports what’s being said without competing with it.

6 – Ask for help!
One of the services we offer our clients is writing and preparing the ceremony text, starting from your own story and wishes.
We’ve built a process with our couples that maps out the moments that matter to you and lets us create a text that’s 100% built around you.
Unique, moving, and above all, different from anyone else’s.
And here’s the best part: you can book this service even if you’re not planning the rest of your wedding with us.
It comes at a modest cost and lets you build your ceremony text from A to Z!
